Art Pottery
Ceramics - One of the oldest and widespread decorative arts.
Ceramics is the art of forming utilitarian vessels and ornamental objects from clay. After forming, the clay is heated to a specific temperature which hardens and strengthens the clay. A second heating and the incorporation of a glaze gives a vessel the ability to hold a liquid.
Pottery is one of the names given to objects that are made from clay. Pottery can also be referred to as earthenware (lowest kiln heat from 1830°F), stoneware (medium kiln heat from 2010°F) or porcelain (highest kiln heat up to 2550°F).
Art Pottery refers to pottery that has been taken beyond utilitarian to artistic ornamental and in these examples a designer or artist has been involved in its creation.
